She's 9, highly influential and a lovely little girl. I spend all my time with them doing fun things - because I love their company. I wonder sometimes because I feel that I didn't have involved parents I do the opposite and be hyper involved.
I bring her up to first focus on her own happiness. Then to achieve lots with sports and school as well as pushing her boundaries of fear. For example this summer she competed in provincial gymnastics, did some pretty gnarly dirt biking in the mountains over some crazy muddy terrain zero complaints from her. Last summer she and her brother decided upon themselves to jump into glacial river with deep pools, large hikes etc. You really start seeing how your kids react compared to other kids in challenging situations.
I also focus on love, the family unit, being maternal (to her teddies) and the glue in a family. I've found women to be natural and excellent matriarchs for tieing the family together. This doesn't mean be a slave to dishes and laundry but - limitless love, engagement, connection.
I also work on logic, rationality and non-emotional responses, wealth accumulation, investing, stoicism and psychology with them. I want them to be able to self-sooth, expand their horizons and be able to mentally handle it all.
I pay them both money for outcomes - e.g. if they achieved something challenging like a ribbon for Gymnastics. Or if they do something entrepreneurial.
I'd like to do a series of posts on Children in the future.
I am so impressed that you are countering the pervasive fashion of safteyism which, like the work of over-protective parents, results in anxiety, fear, joylessness and then dependence.
We live in an ever changing, dynamic realm and therefore survive and thrive thanks to a variety of interests and skills. Thankfully, your children will not only learn to enjoy their world to its fullest but avoid the terrible monopolistic, belief system that only benefits the immoral controllers.
Thank you for the nice words. They hear ad nausiem about the controllers. I'd love to try to get them to independent millionaires before 20. We'll see 😏
A picture's worth a thousand words - obviously you have a besotted daughter who loves you very much. Well done you!
Thank you Zarayna.
